Steve R's Football Video Tips
This is the intro to the highlight portion of the video.
Editing points of interest:
This video illustrates the use of the blur effect with moving titles. Actual
names have been 'X'd out. It also shows how you can use shorter and
shorter clips coupled with louder and louder audio to build to a crescendo.
Game 1
Editing points of interest:
This video illustrates the importance of audio to 'sweeten' a scene. The
audio on this clip is mixed from crowd noise, music, and player voices.
Homecoming Beginning
Editing points of interest:
This shows the use of the 'quick cut' technique in order to have the football
homecoming parade lead in to the game footage. For anyone who has ever
done a football highlight video you realize that coming up with creative ways
to introduce each game can be challenging. You're only allowed 1 shot of the
players bursting through the banner as they run on the field (Steve's law).
Editing Points of interest:
I also do a web site for the team and I wanted to incorporate that into the video. This
shot shows a video push into a still picture, then pulling out into a still photo. The still
photo dissolves into a screen shot of the web page and then the video pulls out from
the screen shot to show 2 players looking at the web site. By the way, there are dozens
of video clips on my web site showing football highlights. The streaming Quicktime
movie clips were ALL created with Premiere Elements.

Editing Points of interest:
Each player was interviewed for the roster section of the video. Each interview
consisted of a player photo with voice-over, then merging in to the video of the
interview. Video of a player's big play or some other action shot was superimposed in a
PiP. I broke up the routine with some of the interviews like this one. This one shows
how images can be overlaid to create an interesting effect.
Seniors
Editing points of interest:
There are symmetries in the video - It opens with the kid's names ('X'd out here) in the
sky and ends with them (represented by a bird) flying away.
- Another symmetry is in the middle - There is a sequence that shows the 1st picture
taken of the seniors leading in to the last picture of them taken at the last game shown
to the lyric of "I started out for God knows where, I guess I'll know when I get there"
- A story arc that uses a bird moving from hatching to learning to fly and finally flying. I
tried not to be too heavy handed with this. 4 short clips in the beginning, 2 in the
middle, 1 at the end. It may be cliche, but I think it worked.
Outtakes
Editing Points of interest:
More use of the quick cut technique. This piece was added to the video disc to
balance out the piece on the Seniors. You know the old movie adage: "You'll laugh,
you'll cry, you'll kiss your 7 bucks goodbye".
